Acoustic Guitar Sessions Presents Grace Askew
Grace Askew was too good for a mindless TV reality show competition. Her sassy take on “These Boots Are Made for Walking,” on Season Four of The Voice, may have had judges Shakira and Blake Shelton fighting over Askew, but the swaggering 27-year-old singer was ultimately eliminated in favor of the profoundly mediocre Swon Brothers.
No matter. The Memphis native has since released a terrific album, Scaredy Cat, which features 11 spare and gritty original tunes, many of them acoustic-based, that are much more befitting of her raw country-blues style. Askew recorded the album back home at Sun Studio, then hit the road on a tour that brought her self-defined bluntry (blues + country) to the San Francisco Bay Area back in August.

We were thrilled to catch Askew’s show at 50 Mason Social House, and even more thrilled when she lugged her Godin archtop and shiny Dean resonator into the Acoustic Guitar studio for a performance and interview. Now, we’re offering that session up to you.
We couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate Thanksgiving than by saying… Grace.
