Designer and builder Stephen Marchione of Marchione Guitars in Houston, Texas, discusses two of his handcrafted instruments: a 16-inch archtop (with high-grade Engelmann spruce top, European maple back and sides, ebony fretboard, and handwound pickup) and a classical model. “My Classical design combines the ease of playability and tonal accuracy of a Gilbert guitar, the warmth and richness of tone of a Fleta, and the power and projection of a Rodriguez Jr. guitar from the 1970s,” Marchione notes.
