VIDEO: AG Reports From Winter NAMM 2016

“I had some woods that were just too cool to feel worthy of working with.”

So said Richard Hoover when AG associate editor Whitney Phaneuf — who’s also the editor of Ukulele magazine — visited the Santa Cruz Guitar Company’s booth at the 2016 Winter NAMM Show. Hoover’s company is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and Hoover’s brought back a very limited number of the the company’s old FTC cutaways — the model Eric Clapton owns — made with special materials.

AG talked with several other instrument makers and shakers during the first full day of NAMM Thursday including the legendary Ren Ferguson of Guild (and earlier Gibson) fame, Scott Follweiler at Martin Guitars, Jim Huss of Huss & Dalton, Collings Guitars’ Steve McCreary, the good folks at McPherson Guitars, the venerable folksinger Happy Traum strumming an instrument strung with DR Handmade strings, and many others.
