WATCH: Tawny Newsome Joins Robbie Fulks on ‘AG’ Stage at SXSW

You may know Tawny Newsome for her comedy work with Second City, or you may know Newsome for her music work with the Mekons’ Jon Langford. This afternoon, at around 2 p.m. Central Time, ace songwriter and guitar wizard Robbie Fulks bought the singer and funnywoman onto Acoustic Guitar‘s stage at the Brooklyn Country Cantina showcase at South by Southwest.

“It’s great to see so many people of color out here today,” Newsome cracked to the overwhelmingly white audience. “Look around you and decide whether or not that was a joke.”

We thought we’d give you a little taste of Fulks’ and Newsome’s work together — they did some funny stuff (an improvised take-down of the corporatization of SXSW) — but the best was this beautiful duet on Jesse Winchester’s gorgeous “Mississippi You’re on My Mind.”

Enjoy. And stay tuned for more from AG at SXSW.
