This San Francisco-based progressive bluegrass band Front Country, featuring guitarist Jacob Groopman and fronted by vocalist and guitarist Melody Walker, has won rave reviews from critics and peers alike. Woody Platt of the Steep Canyon Rangers has praised Front Country’s “willingness to stretch the bluegrass boundary while maintaining the acoustic integrity of the music.”

The acoustic music audience also has been quick to embrace the band: In 2013, Front Country—Groopman, Walker, mandolinist Adam Roszkiewicz, violinist Leif Karlstrom, and bassist Jeremy Darrow—became the third band in history to win both the RockyGrass and Telluride band contests.

Front Country recently visited the Acoustic Guitar Sessions studio to chat and perform “Absent-minded Melody” and “Colorado,” as well as a spirited acoustic cover of King Crimson’s “Three of a Perfect Pair.”
