There are so-called supergroups and then there’s the ultimate supergroup, the Highwaymen: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Kris Kristofferson and Willie Nelson.
Kristofferson sums up their special dynamic pretty well: “Willie’s the outlaw coyote. Waylon’s the riverboat gambler. I’m the revolutionary communist radical and John is the father of our country.”
A new PBS American Masters documentary, The Highwaymen: Friends Till The End, chronicles the band’s 10 years together, from 1985-1995, through vintage performances, behind-the-scenes footage of life on the road and in the studio, and interviews with Nelson, Kristofferson, and the many artists they influenced. Watch above till the stream expires on June 25.
