Watch Justin Timberlake on Acoustic Guitar Perform Cyndi Lauper’s ‘True Colors’ with Anna Kendrick

It’s pretty rare for Justin Timberlake to n’sync his singing with a guitar — it’s hard to dance with an axe, after all — but recently the pop star picked up his Gibson J-200 with vintage sunburst and performed a syrupy, acoustic cover of Cyndi Lauper’s “True Colors” with Anna Kendrick at the Cannes Film Festival. Co-stars Timberlake and Kendrick were there to promote their forthcoming animated film, Trolls, which hits theaters in November.

Here Kendrick and Timberlake offer an almost lullaby-esque take on the popular ’80s ballad, with gentle strumming and hushed intimacy. One might even say it’s beautiful … like a rainbow.

“True Colors” will be featured on the movie’s soundtrack (out September 23), and other music from Trolls is making waves as well. Last week, Timberlake released an original song from the soundtrack, “Can’t Stop the Feeling,” which is the first piece of music Timberlake has released in almost three years, and quickly became a chart-topper.
