Continuing ‘Robbie Fulks Week’ at Acoustic Guitar, here’s another video performance from the master guitarist and songwriter captured live on the Acoustic Guitar Stage at the Brooklyn Country Cantina this past Saturday, March 19, during SXSW.

Here, Fulks and fiddler Shad Cobb perform a brand new song, “Aunt Peg’s New Old Man,” from Fulks’ upcoming Bloodshot Records release Upland Stories.

“This is a song about my great aunt,” Fulks says  before performing the new tune. “She played the banjo and in the mid-’70s, when I was a boy, and she was almost dead, we went to meet her.” It was the beginning of a circuitous way of getting around to the point of his story — a traumatic event in young Robbie’s life: “The other thing that happened that day was that, when I played banjo for her, she told me, uh… she told me that I was a bad banjo player.”

Everybody, repeat after me: Ahhhh! And watch the clip for the rest of the story.

We’re celebrating Fulks this week in anticipation of his new album, which is due out April 1. You can find out more about it right here.

Hey, fellow guitarist! Did you know that if just 1% of people who visited this site in December became patrons, we'd be secure for all of next year? Many plan to pledge later, but then forget. So we're asking you to give just $1 (or whatever you can afford) right now.
