In 1986, ex-Blasters guitarist and Americana singer-songwriter Dave Alvin joined the punk band X, and with front man John Doe, began moving the L.A. rockers more into country-folk territory. Watch Doe and Alvin perform an acoustic version of the X song “See How We Are.”

In this clip, Doe is playing his old Gibson J-160E, which is now owned by Acoustic Guitar magazine’s production editor Hugh O’Connor. You’ll be able to read about this Gibson’s back story in the Great Acoustics department of AG‘s September issue, which hits magazine racks in late July.
