Each year since his untimely passing in 2014, flamenco/jazz master Paco de Lucía’s legacy seems to have grown, as new fans continue to discover his amazing artistry, which combined unparalleled technical mastery with bottomless wells of deeply expressed emotion. Paco would be turning 70 a little later this year, and he is so sorely missed!


In this video from 30 years ago, he teams up with the great jazz/fusion guitarist John McLaughlin (with whom he also played in a wildly successful trio that included Al DiMeola) for a spectacular version of Chick Corea’s classic composition, “Spain.” Fasten your seatbelts for this one!   —Blair Jackson
