To celebrate Jeff Tweedy’s 49th birthday today, AG dug up an early Wilco performance. This came not long after Tweedy had left the seminal alt-country band Uncle Tupelo and formed his long-lasting current band. In this clip, the brand-new Wilco — with Tweedy on acoustic fronting the band’s original lineup, which also included the late guitarist Jay Bennett, who died in 2009 — performs the classic Uncle Tupelo song “New Madrid,” from its 1993 album Anondyne. Happy birthday, Jeff. May you have many, many returns.
