Joan Baez turns 79 today, so let’s raise a toast to the golden-voiced thrush for all she’s given us through the years! Here she is on British television in 1964 playing a version of Bob Dylan’s acerbic “It Ain’t Me Babe,” which appeared that year on the LP Another Side of Bob Dylan. Joan’s original recording also appeared in 1964, on the album Joan Baez/5. The following year, Johnny Cash had a hit with it, as did the Turtles, of all people.

It’s easy to forget that though ’64 was year The Beatles really exploded, the folk boom was still going strong and Joan Baez was at the center of it still. –Blair Jackson
