Maisy Owen’s Mesmerizing Songcraft  | Acoustic Guitar Sessions

The Nashville native’s debut album, Dark on a Sunny Day, is full of hypnotic guitar work and poetic imagery, but most importantly, the songs feel intimate; you can picture yourself in the room witnessing the performance put to tape.    

In this Session you don’t have to picture it. Owen plays two tunes from Dark on a Sunny Day, “God Fear” and “The Rest of Me,” plus a new song, “Undertow.” She performs the entire set with an effortless intensity. How can one voice and a thrift store Recording King guitar deliver so much?

Owen’s early guitar explorations were influenced by her godfather, songwriter David Olney. “I was strumming chords and playing Deep Purple songs. [David] sat me down one day and showed me a straightforward two-finger picking pattern. And I played that on everything.”
