He may not be as famous as Pete Seeger or even Phil Ochs, but Si Kahn‘s powerful folk songs and diligent work in labor organizing have been at least as important as the music and activism of those two legends. Kahn, founder of Grassroots Leadership, has been singing and organizing from his home base in Charlotte, North Carolina, for decades.

Enjoy this clip of Si Kahn and the Looping Brothers performing the title song from their 2013 album Aragon Mill: The Bluegrass Sessions. Kahn wrote this now-classic folk song, centered on a mill village in Georgia, in 1971, and first recorded it in 1974.
Kahn turns 72 today. Happy birthday, Si Kahn.
