AG Live is a new, in-person workshop series hosted by Acoustic Guitar magazine in our Point Richmond, California studio. Get involved and learning with touring and local artist instructors, who you’ll recognize from the pages of our magazines, books, and beyond.

Upcoming Events:

Jazz guitarist and educator Ron Jackson will get guitarists improvising—regardless of style—using common scales like the natural minor, pentatonic, and blues. He’ll explain how to make the best note choices for any situation; demonstrate common vocabulary for soloing; and, most important, teach students how to use their ears to be able to jam on the spot with anyone.

Blues expert Steve James will demonstrate a number of song motifs in various keys and tunings, employing syncopated picking and blue-note harmony. He’ll break down a couple of tunes in a hands-on session that will leave participants with new repertoire, plus useful chords, phrases, and rhythmic devices for general use—plus a little blues lore and history.

Join in on this style workshop with Adam Levy. He’ll talk about how he found (and continues to discover) his own musical voice—influences, challenges, and breakthroughs. Finally, through Q&A and a few jams, he will help students along the path to finding their own voices on the instrument.
