New
Releases

On May 18, Rhino Records will
release King of the Cowboys: The Roy Rogers Box, a
four-CD, 94-track box set that spans the singing cowboy’s entire
recording career. The retrospective will contain many unreleased
songs and include extensive liner notes.
Sony/Legacy’s spring releases
include two 30-song, two-CD sets, The Very Best of Willie
Nelson and Johnny Cash’s The Man in Black.
Both collections feature the country legends’ most popular songs.
Rhino has released The Best
of Tom Paxton, a 26-song collection culled from the revered
folk troubadour’s seven Elektra albums, originally released from
1964 to 1971.
Mel Bay’s recent books include
The Guitar of Tim Sparks, which features many of Sparks’
odd-meter fingerstyle pieces, and Jim Ferguson’s
All Blues Soloing for Jazz Guitar, a follow-up to his well-received
All Blues for Jazz Guitar: Comping Styles, Chords, and Grooves.
Dan Erlewine has written
Guitar Finishing Step-By-Step, the first book to deal exclusively
with the details of finishing acoustic and solid-body guitars. The

Jimmy Domengeaux, guitarist
with Steve Riley and the Mamou Playboys, was killed in a motorcycle
accident in southwestern Louisiana on January 25. He was 44 years
old. Contributions to a trust fund for Domengeaux’s daughter can
