CREATING A MYSPACE PAGE

With a simple and easily updated interface that offers streaming audio, a gig calendar, photos, basic bio information, and the ability to interact with fans and other musicians, a MySpace page has become one of the latest accoutrements required of an indie musician. Whether or not you’ve been mulling over taking the MySpace plunge, here are the basic things you need to know about why and how to create your own presence there.
Why Create a MySpace Page?
“But,” you say, “I already have a very nice website that I spent a lot of time and money on. Why should I go to the trouble of setting up a MySpace page?” There are a lot of answers to this question. The main one is: “Why not?” It’s unclear just what effect a MySpace page will have on your career or the attendance at your concerts (there are stories of people jump-starting pop music careers in part through their MySpace pages, but this is irrelevant to most of us), but setting one up is so quick and easy, it’s hard to find any logical reason not to do it.
